ITT renews emphasis on alternative fuel technology products
VALENCIA, Calif., - June 16, 2009 – Responding to energy industry studies that show petroleum prices continuing to climb steadily in the future, ITT Corporation today announced a renewed emphasis on providing governments and businesses around the globe with leading-edge technologies designed to reduce their dependence on oil-based fuels.
“The need for greater energy efficiency is one that’s only going to grow more acute in the years to come,” said Jim Dauw, president of ITT’s Control Technologies business. “The current uncertainty of the global economy has resulted in wildly fluctuating energy prices, but long-term trends indicate these costs are definitely going to rise. At ITT, we have the capability to offer our customers a wide range of innovative products based on alternative fuel sources, such as environmentally friendly compressed natural gas (CNG) regulators. Over time, these products have earned a reputation for world-class reliability and performance in the most demanding applications.”
An example of this innovation comes from ITT Conoflow, a unit of ITT. For more than a generation, it has supplied bus, truck and auto manufacturers with compressed natural gas regulators that are used in systems to convert vehicles to operate either exclusively on CNG or on a “dual-fuel” combination with petrol or diesel.
“Long before energy efficiency was the issue it is today, we were leading the way in this field,” said Steve Piluk, product manager for Alternative Fuels, ITT Conoflow. “We are now regarded as a ‘best-in-class’ provider for compressed natural gas regulators for heavy-duty engine applications – those that are 5.0 liters or larger in size.”
ITT Conoflow also supplies these regulators to system developers and providers, such as Advanced Fuels Technology Pty., Ltd. (AFT), based in Melbourne, Australia, and FAB Industries, located in Anniston, Ala. The former supports the alternative fuels industry throughout Australia and Southeast Asia, while the latter is North America’s largest supplier of alternative fuel systems and infrastructure for transit bus, medium duty trucks and refuse truck manufacturers.
Recently, AFT used ITT Conoflow’s HPNGV Series CNG Regulator when installing dedicated CNG systems in a fleet of Iveco refuse trucks, as well as Mack concrete trucks, thereby reducing the vehicles’ fuel costs and lowering critical greenhouse-gas emissions.
Likewise, FAB Industries routinely incorporates ITT Conoflow’s HPNGV Series Heavy Duty CNG Regulator when providing alternative fuel systems for mass transit buses, which represent one of the company’s main focuses.
“The fleets have been satisfied with the benefits they’ve seen from switching their vehicles to a dedicated CNG system – benefits that would not have been possible without ITT Conoflow’s contributions,” said Ron Eickelman, president of FAB Industries.
Added Sean Blythe, CEO of AFT: “ITT Conoflow’s technology has played a key role in the technical reputation of our business. We are proud to have forged such a long and mutually fulfilling partnership.”
